Applies to: Connect Sensor XRT-M managed in Digi Axess
Revision: 1.0
Purpose
This procedure describes how to decommission a Digi Connect Sensor XRT-M (including XRT-M NEMA variants) when it is end-of-life (EOL) or no longer needed. Decommissioning includes preserving required data, stopping alerts, optionally clearing historical sensor data, and disposing of the hardware responsibly.
Important
Do not return used products to Digi. Digi does not accept returns of used/installed products. Dispose of hardware and batteries per your local regulations.
Prerequisites
- Administrative (or Device User) access to Digi Axess.
- The serial number of the device.
- Physical access to the device (recommended).
Procedure
1) Preserve any data you need
If you need historical readings, alerts, or device metadata for audits or record retention, export or capture that information from Digi Axess before you decommission the device.
2) Stop alerts and operational workflows in Digi Axess
From Digi Axess Admin, open the device record (Devices page > Serial Number) and:
- Remove the device from notification/contact groups, so it no longer sends notifications.
- Adjust any device-specific stale notification thresholds if needed.
- If your organization uses device groups, move the device into a “Decommissioned” device group to separate it from active inventory.
3) (Optional) Clear historical sensor data in Digi Axess
If the device will be reused in a different role or you want to remove prior-day historical sensor readings from Digi Axess, you can clear historical sensor data for the device.
1. Access Digi Axess Admin > Devices.
2. Find the device and click its Serial Number.
3. Click Clear Sensor Data.
4. Review the warning and click Confirm.
4) (Optional) Access the device web UI for last configuration changes
If you need to back up configuration or disable local services before retirement, you can access the device web UI from the Device Summary page in Digi Axess (Configure Device).
5) Cancel services and dispose of hardware
- Cancel any cellular data plan associated with the device (carrier or service provider).
- Power down the device and remove batteries (if applicable). Handle/dispose of batteries per local requirements for lithium metal batteries.
- Dispose of the device as electronic waste (WEEE/e-waste) per local regulations.
6) Record completion
For audit purposes, record the device serial number/IMEI, decommission date, and the actions taken (group changes, notifications removed, sensor data cleared, and any factory reset performed).
Support
If you need help with Digi Axess administration or device access, contact Digi Support and provide the device with serial number and details of the request.
